John Slate has been in great demand as a private teacher, educator, clinician and soloist for the last thirty years. He studied privately with Joseph Viola at the prestigious Berklee College of Music for four years while earning an undergraduate degree in performance and education. He furthered his studies with Nestor Koval at Duquesne University while earning a master's degree in education.
John has wide teaching experience, from public schools for 20-some years, to conservatories, to his present position as adjunct professor of saxophone and jazz improvisation at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He has done many master classes and seminars at high schools and colleges as a soloist and with his own internationally reknown jazz quartet.
